Love this tune I have it on a 45.
Best tribute I can pay is s story from when I was DJing with a mate at a wedding. The happy couple had asked us to DJ as they wanted Reggae played and knew we both DJd and collected Reggae.
The atmosphere was a bit flat due to s lot of Reggae not being suitable for a party, my mate was really into his roots do was spinning a lot of that.
I pulled out my copy of My Boy Lollipop and he was laughing saying nooo way. I said watch what happens. As soon as the intro started loads got up and rushed to the dancefloor which became busy for the first time.
RIP Millie

Millie was 17 going on 18 when the track was recorded. Rod did NOT play on the track at all. The harmonica solo which made it onto plastic was done by a guy called Pete Hogman, who was around the blues music scene all his life up until he died a few years back on the IOW. He was an occasional member of Jim Powell and the Dimensions, who were the backing band for the Lollipop track. Jim Powell played the original harmonica, which was dropped as it was woeful, and Pete's version (almost as bad) was recorded instead. The Rod 'connection' is that he shared the vocals / harmonica with Jim Powell, in the Dimensions, for about a year when they moved down to London from the Midlands, but he didn't really get along with Jim, as they were both very forceful characters, and Rod eventually went off touring behind Chuck Berry and never came back!

There was an advert a few years back which featured the other(better) Lollipop song sung by an American female group. An old tart was eyeing up a young guy who kept his car key in his swimming shorts.

* It was a lie, really. But she liked maintaining the urban myth. And it was a good excuse for bad pun. Carry on.

One-hit wonder, but a great record (if before my time).
FACT! Gave a rare in-depth interview to Goldmine mag a few years ago. She insisted, against the denials of Rod Stewart, that it was he who played harmonica on "My Boy Lollipop". Well. I. Never. "Touched by the hand of Rod"? Soz.
She also didn't receive any royalties. Boo!
RIP.

One of the few times I disagree with Hugh. Great voice and a sensational recording.
